Description
Technicqll Rapid bond is a two-component methacrylate adhesive based on modified methyl methacrylate (MMA). It comes in an easy-to-use dual-chamber syringe, with a static mixer in the pack. Use it to join metal structures, make composite joints and bond stone, glass, wood, carbon, plastics and ceramics. On stainless steel the bond strength reaches up to 300 kg/cm2.
On plastics it works as "cold welding", which makes it suit car repairs: fitting spoilers, side panels on insulated bodies, roof panels and GRP panels to steel frames. Other uses are joining composites to metal in prototypes, air-conditioning valves and lines, window frames and closing strips, boat hull trusses and deck planking, and kitchen worktop panels. The joint is colourless, invisible and non-yellowing, and it resists UV radiation, mould, fungi and salt water.
Suitable materials
- Metals: cast iron, iron, aluminium, copper, bronze, zinc, carbon steel, ferrite, stainless steel, chromed, galvanised, painted and plated metals
- Composites: glass fibre, gelcoats, SMC, BMC, polyester, epoxy, vinylester and DCPD laminates
- Plastics: ABS, PVC, acrylic glass (PMMA), polyamides (nylon), polycarbonates, polyurethanes
- Also stone, ceramics, glass, wood and carbon
- Not for PP, PE and PTFE plastics
How to use
- The surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease.
- If the adhesive is cold, let it warm to room temperature first: it becomes thinner and easier to dose.
- Squeeze out and discard the first few drops so that adhesive and hardener come out in the right ratio.
- Squeeze the amount you need, 2-3 ml, into the included cup or onto a plastic base and mix it quickly, within 15 seconds, until uniform.
- Apply the mixed adhesive sparingly to one surface only, in dots or a thin layer, and join the parts within the open time.
- Press the parts together for about 30 seconds so the adhesive spreads into a thin layer, then keep them still for a few minutes, under pressure if needed.
- Hold heavy parts still until the adhesive has fully cured.
- To keep the rest of the adhesive, clean the syringe tip and put the cap back on. The static mixer is single-use.
- Remove fresh stains with spirit, acetone or isopropyl alcohol. Squeezed-out adhesive can stay tacky for up to 24 hours; this does not affect the strength of the joint.
- Work in a well-ventilated place, as the adhesive has a strong smell.
