Description

The AMiO head gasket tester shows you whether the cylinder head gasket leaks on a liquid-cooled petrol, diesel or LPG engine. If the gasket leaks and CO2 gets into the cooling system, the test liquid turns yellow or green.

The tester works by detecting CO2: when the CO2 concentration rises, the reaction liquid reacts with it and changes colour. The 10 ml of CO2 test liquid is enough for 5 tests.

The black adapter fits filler openings from 25 mm to 55 mm, so you can check more coolant filler opening diameters than with a tester that has a single white adapter. Among other things, you can test cars, trucks, tractors, excavators, motorcycles and forklifts. The adapter is made of a suitably soft rubber compound that fits tightly onto the filler neck and the tester tube and keeps the connection 100% tight during the test.

How to test

  • Fill the tester with reaction liquid up to the level between the chambers (about 2 ml).
  • Fit the tester to the opening of the expansion tank or the radiator.
  • Start the engine and run it at high revs to build up more combustion pressure.
  • Keep the engine at slightly raised revs and watch the reaction liquid.
  • If the reaction liquid turns yellow or green within a few minutes, the head gasket or the cylinder head itself is damaged.
  • When you have finished, take the tester off carefully.

Test results

  • Diesel engine, blue turns green: the head gasket or the cylinder head itself is damaged.
  • Petrol or LPG engine, blue turns yellow: the head gasket or the cylinder head itself is damaged.
  • The reaction liquid stays blue: no CO2 was detected in the system.

Safety

  • On a warm engine, take particular care when you unscrew the cap and during the test: risk of burns.
  • Do not let coolant mix with the reaction liquid during the test, or the test may be void.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and wash your hands thoroughly after the test.
