Description

The AMiO CO2 head gasket tester shows you whether the head gasket leaks on a liquid-cooled petrol, diesel or LPG engine. If the gasket leaks and CO2 gets into the cooling system, the reaction liquid in the tester turns yellow or green.

The tester works by detecting CO2: when the CO2 concentration rises, the reaction liquid reacts with it and changes colour. The 60 ml of reaction liquid is enough for 30 tests.

The black conical adapter fits filler openings from 25 mm to 55 mm, so you can check 6 times as many coolant filler opening diameters as with a tester that has a single white adapter. Among other things, you can test cars, trucks, locomotives, excavators, motorcycles and forklifts. The adapter is made of a high-temperature-resistant soft rubber compound and fits tightly onto the filler neck and the tester tube.

How to test

  • Fill the tester with reaction liquid up to the level between the chambers (about 2 ml).
  • Fit the tester to the opening of the expansion tank or the radiator.
  • Start the engine and run it at higher revs to build up more combustion pressure.
  • Keep the engine at somewhat higher revs and watch the reaction liquid.
  • If the reaction liquid turns yellow or green within a few minutes, the head gasket or the cylinder head itself is damaged.
  • When you have finished, take the tester off carefully.

Test results

  • Diesel engine, blue turns green: the head gasket or the cylinder head itself is damaged.
  • Petrol or LPG engine, blue turns yellow: the head gasket or the cylinder head itself is damaged.
  • The reaction liquid stays blue: no CO2 was detected in the system.

Safety

  • On a warm engine, take particular care when you unscrew the cap and during the test: risk of burns.
  • Do not let coolant mix with the reaction liquid during the test, or the result may be wrong.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and wash your hands thoroughly after the test.
